Comments from Government representatives and community organizations on private luxury jet expansion planFeb 20, 2023In addition to the huge number of general public comments regarding the Environmental Notification Form for the massive hangar expansion project, there are a number of government officials and community groups which have commented. The extremely short timeframe for this commment period and the lack of clear understanding of the scope of the project limited the responses. These comments consistently show serious reservations regarding the project. The primary comment that specifically addressed the MEPA process was the complaint that there was no disclosure regarding the main environmental impact of the plan: the expected effect of the project on the number of flights, and associated noise, chemical pollution, and climate change impact. The plan simply pretended that no flights would be created by the tripling of the hangar capacity, but no citizen or organization found this credible. These written government and agency comments are extremely broad in terms of the issues of concern and are provided below. One of the more interesting comments proposed by State Legislators was to use the project only for low-carbon aircraft. The potential for this scenairo is discussed here. Note that the MEPA process is not a permitting process, but rather a disclosure process. Therefore comments that judge the project are generally not considered responsive, only comments that require additional disclosures of impact. Under the MEPA process, some submissions are still under review and have not been made public so they may not yet be included on the attached list.
