New Land addition to Barretts Farm

A two-acre portion of the Barrett Farm, the objective of the British on the first day of the American Revolution, has been saved and added to Minute Man National Historical Park.  This land, adjacent to the Barrett’s Farm homestead, abuts the site of the historic Barrett barn.

At an April 14 event celebrating this transfer, representatives of the American Battlefield Trust, along with the Superintendent of the Park, spoke of the relevance of this site to the Revolution and American History.

The centerpiece of the site is the Barrett Farm homestead.  The building was acquired in 2003 by Save Our Heritage, and the organization preserved and restored it from 2004 to 2012.  During that period, Massachusetts Representative Marty Meehan and Senator Ted Kennedy worked for years to ultimately adjust the boundaries of the Park to include the Barrett properties.

The Acquisition of the parcel will protect the historic site and enable additional interpretation of the site, including making the barn area more accessible.
