Concord Town Meeting seeks to protect historic hangar from demolition.

The Special Town Meeting of the Town of Concord approved a motion to add the historic “Hangar 24” at Hanscom Field to the properties protected under the Demolition Delay Bylaw.

The site, formerly a research site for Draper Laboratory and MIT Lincoln Laboratory,  has been discussed as a potential location for a Massachusetts Aerospace and Technology Museum.

The current owner of the Hangar, the Massachusetts Port Authority, has petitioned for the Mass Historic Commission for a Memorandum of Agreement to allow the Authority to demolish the hangar for unspecified future aviation purposes.

The rich historic significance of the site was described at the town meeting in a video and also in a very informative presentation about the remarkable history of the site.(pdf file link)
